Abstract
- The article presents a study discussing the role of methylation status of genes such as p14ARF, TMS1/ASC, and DAPK, in activation of the p53-Bax mitochondrial apoptosis pathway and its clinical significance in cholangiocarcinoma. It is found that frequency of methylation in cholangiocarcinoma tissue was much higher than the frequency of methylation in normal adjacent tissue. It is also mentioned that the 38.9 percent cholangiocarcinoma cases had combined p53 mutation and DAPK, p14ARF, and ASC methylation, and these patients had a poorer pathologic biology and prognosis than the other patients.
