Abstract
- The author discusses the need to effectively utilize the tools and geophysical knowledge of the world most particularly for the purpose of earthquake hazard mitigation in response to the 2011 magnitude-9 Tohoku-Oki earthquake devastated Japan. He also stresses the importance of developing a rapid tsunami-warning system that have an access to high-quality data at short distances as well as a method that can determine both the magnitude of the earthquake and the mechanism of faulting.
