Abstract
- The article discusses the mathematical epidemiology used to eradicate smallpox and its lessons to eradicate other human infections. It highlights the efforts by mathematical epidemiologist Daniel Bernoulli to quantify the inoculation and suggest variolation to eradicate the disease. It also discusses the geometrical interpretation and the use of herd immunity to eradicate the disease, which shows similarity with other viral diseases containing herd immunity but have varying approximations.
