Central pontine myelinolysis: A lesson in humility.

The author comments on the article "Long-Term Outcome of Patients Hospitalized in Intensive Care Units With Central or Extrapontine Myelinolysis," by G. Louis and colleagues. He believes that study should provoke attention and concern about the management of patients with central pontine/extrapontine myelinolysis (CPM/EPM) and give further insight into its often reversible nature. He then reports the findings of the multicentered study involving 36 intensive care unit (ICU) patients in France.
