Abstract

The article reports that Iran has significantly increased its purchases of imports of wheat from countries which include the U.S., Australia and possibly India. The wheat imports are discussed as an indication Iran is attempting to prevent expected increases in bread prices as a result of economic sanctions imposed by the U.S. and other countries over its nuclear program. It is noted that the U.S. sanctions do not apply to exports of food to Iran.
