Abstract

The article discusses a randomized study of the proinflammatory response (PR) and clinical outcome of endoscopic transgastric (ET) and surgical necrosectomy (SN) for patients with infected necrotizing pancreatitis (INP). The researchers randomized 22 patients with signs of INP and had an indication for intervention in 3 academic hospitals and one regional teaching hospital in the Netherlands between August 20, 2008 and March 3, 2010. They found that ET lowered the PR and the composite clinical end point compared with SN. INSET: Box. Definitions of Clinical End Points.
