Abstract: The article discusses the emergence of contract chemical manufacturers with industrial biotechnology firms. Rivertop Renewables confirmed that DTI has begun manufacturing biobased chemical glucaric acid at DTI's facility in Danville, Virginia. Michigan Biotechnology Institute fermented OPX Biotechnologies' key acrylic acid in a reactor at MBI's facility in Lansing, Michigan. Contract manufacturer Albemarle plans to make pilot-scale quantities of jet fuel out of biobased 1-butanol.
