This paper analyzes tenancy right as a legal institute of socialist Yugoslavia and the style of design at the time of housing relations and its repercussions on the Croatian legislation after its transition to capitalism and open markets. Furthermore, it examines the regulation of tenancy right through its stages of development in Yugoslavia, its main characteristics and intentions of the legislator, transformation in the democratic Croatia, through the Law on Sale of Apartments with Tenancy Rights, and ultimately, his abolition by the Law of Property Leasing and the Law on Ownership and other Property Rights.
