ROZSAH A DOPADY PODPORY VÝZKUMU A INOVACÍ V ZEMÍCH BÝVALÉHO ČESKOSLOVENSKA.

Research and innovation influence economic performance and competitiveness strongly. This area is in the spotlight of national governments, as well as the European Commission. This article aims to assess the economic development of two countries of the former Czechoslovakia during the period 1970 -2009 by GDP per capita, investment and share the drivers and welfare industries, and compare the support of research and innovation activities in both countries. The support of research and innovation is evaluated in the form of institutional support, direct funding and indirect support. It shows that the evaluated economies have some features analogous, but in some parameters, there are differences. However, the ways to improve the condition seem to be in terms of membership in the EU alike. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
