Abstract

The article focuses on the significance of improving the field of atmospheric mercury (Hg) research in China to enhance the knowledge about the global Hg cycle. It discusses the adverse health effects brought by the exposure to Hg, which predominantly exists in gaseous form, in both humans and wildlife. It says that China has played an important role in the protection of human health and ecosystems such as the development of renewable energies, afforestation, and strict pollutant emission standards. It suggests the importance of the development of a framework for understanding data and effective strategies for the priority in research to lessen uncertainties of Hg in the country.
