Abstract

A micro-gap wire chamber (MGWC), a new tracking detector has been developed for use in high-rate experiments. A prototype of the MGWC of a sensitive area of 30×10 cm2 is made with a printed circuit board and finely spaced round thin wires stretched with a narrow gap of 50 μm between anode wires and cathode strips. The result shows a rate capability of more than 1×104/mm2/s. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
