Abstract

We compiled a list of fish for the Andean piedmont of the Casanare Department in Colombia based on the fieldwork results carried out between 2006 and 2009 in 52 field stations in the main rivers of the region, revised information in biological collections and conducted a literature review. We derived 168 species belonging to six orders, 27 families and 93 genera, nine of these are new records for the Orinoco Basin in Colombia. The Cusiana River had the highest number of species (115 sp.) follow by the Cravo Sur (96 sp.), Pauto (58 sp.), Túa (49 sp.), Upía (45 sp.), Casanare (15 sp.) and Guachiría (10 sp.) rivers.
