Abstract

Hydrothermal reaction of <f>Gd2O3</f> with orotic acid (2,6-dioxo-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyrimidine-4-carboxylic acid, H3dtpc) yielded a novel polymeric complex <f>[Gd(Hdtpc)(OH)(H2O)]n</f> (1) possessing the three-dimensional network constructed by eight-coordinate Gd(III) centers. The whole structure of 1 can be viewed as Gd(III) chains linked by orotate spacers. Crystallographic data for the complex: orthorhombic, space group <f>Pna21</f>, <f>a=10.0654(10)</f>, <f>b=16.5208(17)</f>, <f>c=4.6223(5)</f> A˚, <f>V=768.64(14)</f> A˚3, <f>Z=4</f>, <f>Dc=2.993 gcm−3</f>.
