Abstract

The article reports on research which was conducted to investigate the free living cadence patterns and peak cadence indicators in children by sex, age and body mass index. Researchers evaluated information on cadence patterns and peak cadence which was derived from 2005-2006 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey accelerometer data representing 2,610 U.S. children and adolescents. They found that U.S. children and adolescents seem to spend relatively few minutes in daily life engaged in activities that elicit step accumulation patterns indicative of normal walking speeds or those which are associated with higher intensity activities.
