Abstract
- The article examines the sea ice effects on winter fidelity of Pacific Common Elders or Somateria mollissima v-nigrum in relation to home-range characteristics and ice. The varying characteristics of polynyas had an effect on the size of winter ranges and movements within which were correlated with changes in weather that affected ice conditions. Common Eiders showed a high degree of fidelity to their winter areas.
