Abstract

The article examines the U.S. Census Bureau's September 2012 report that found that median household income in the U.S. had decreased to 50,000 dollars in 2011, which is the lowest rate since 1995. Topics include why the decreased median income does not reflect the U.S. economic recovery, how the Census Bureau's report has influenced U.S. presidential nominee Mitt Romney's campaign speeches, and the effect of decreased income on enrollment in government social programs like Medicaid.
