Abstract

The VLFS (Very Large Floating Structures) are the floating structures that respond to the needs of real state development at sea, mainly for the creation of floating harbors and airports, both in the coast and in the open ocean. Due to the greater space requirements than in the nowadays floating structures (pontoons, barges, ships, offshore platforms) it is still a technology in experimental stage. Several designs have been proposed, according to the depth and the proximity to the coast. The increase in costs of real state at land and in the sensibility for the protection of the coastal areas, will have a main impact in the development of these structures in the XXI century.
