Abstract

Complex system simulations desire modeling methodologies which support both domain-specific modeling of subsystems and universal integration and simulation of the whole system. Current modeling methodologies for complex system simulations are overviewed and classified as unified, composable and generative ones in the second part. It turns out that the generative modeling methodology possesses additional advantages over others when applied to complex system simulations. The shortcomings of current generative modeling applications in simulation domain are discussed. Based on the new born simulation model representation standard SMP2 (simulation model portability standards 2), we propose a systematic generative simulation modeling methodology. It makes use of the relevant technologies and standards of MDA (model driven architecture) and MIC (model integrated computing), which are the two main pertinent directions of the generative modeling methodology. Three key technical issues in the road to generative simulation modeling are discussed, including the common generative representation of multi-domain simulation models, the mapping and model transformation of multi-formalisms to SMP2, and the automatic generation of domain specific modeling tools. Finally, the architecture of a schematic supportive environment for generative simulation modeling is put forward; the finished work and next step are also presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
