Abstract
- As the nuclear industry arrives at a crossroads, this paper looks atBNFL's nuclear future. It does this by addressing two key issues: the energy balance and regulation. The first issue takes in the problems of climate change and renewables, and the nuclear contribution. Thesecond issue raises the possibility that, although safety is the toppriority for BNFL, the cost of regulation may be becoming disproportionate to the advantages gained. The paper concludes that the balancing act between energy supply and CO2 reduction can only beachieved successfully if nuclear is a significant part of the equation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
