Abstract

The article reports on the fraudulent publication of several scholarly research articles by Japanese anesthesiologist Yoshitaka Fujii, produced during his time as a professor and researcher at Toho University. The article overviews investigations into Fujii's alleged academic fraud for articles that were published in scientific journals including "Anesthesia," "Anesthesia & Analgesia," and the "Canadian Journal of Anesthesia." The article explores how trust amongst scholars in scientific research may have contributed to Fujii's success in getting articles accepted for publication and comments on additional topics including peer review of academic writing, the group Committee on Publication Ethics, and potential punishments for Fujii.
