Abstract

The article reports on the outbreak of Mycoplasma pneumoniae respiratory illness among school-aged children in two rural counties in West Virginia in October 2011. Some of the public health interventions taken to contain the outbreak include providing hand sanitizer in schools and informing health care providers of macrolide resistance. It describes the transmission of M. pneumoniae.
