Abstract

This article presents in a synthetic way the findings that, in terms of citizenship, were obtained from a larger scale research entitled "Shared capital: a comprehensive approach to the dynamics of youth." The purpose of this part of the research was to analyze in detail how the concept of citizenship in the youth of Caldas is perceived and materialized, not only in order to know their traditional and alternative citizenship practices, but also to estimate their true potential within the current social context. Citizenship is a condition that throughout the history of thought and societies has been the subject of numerous reflections and interpretations, of intentions and actions that attempt to validate its exercise as an option closer to everyday life. Its renewed validity on the desks of the theoreticians and in the agendas of the governments, derived from the constraints of globalization, is due to the strengthening of a citizenship which transcends borders, and besides, wants to break down barriers in which differences and inequality still find refuge.
