The article analyzes how Mother Castillo's mystic works were integrated into the canon of Colombian literature, with the support of 19th century intellectuals. Literary critics, writers, and historians proposed the deliberate formation of a national identity taking Mother Castillo's mystic works as the starting point since they are part of a political hegemony and a Catholic ideology. The article also discusses the process of Mother Castillo's inclusion in the canon of Colombian literature despite her being a female and an unknown writer from the Colonial period.
