Abstract
- The article discusses the notion of a modular repertoire of contention within a political context. The work of sociologist Charles Tilly regarding such social movement actions is addressed. Other topics include the history of resistance by Great Britain, the notion of transferability of various forms of demonstrations, and the role of British members of Parliament in public meetings and petitions. Also noted is the role of Methodist movement activists in public activism, while the relation of war and taxation to society is addressed.
