Abstract

Exchange rates have a strong effect over macroeconomic variables of a country. For this reason, preference of the exchange rate policy is one of the priorities of economics policies. The size, the degree of openness, the degree of financial development, the share in international trade, the macroeconomic targets which are aimed to succeed of the economy, and the international organisations to which the country belongs, effect the choice of exchange rate. When exchange rate policy is determined, constitute of the cambium regime which includes legal and administrative regulations that consistent with these policies have important function. In this study, it is investigated how much cambium regime supports the exchange rate policy in Turkey from 1923 till now. In this paper, relationship between the cambium regime and the exchange rate policy is examined under three main title of Pre1980 Period in which the constant exchange rate system had been implemented, Post 1980 Period which is the transition period to free market economy, and Post 2001 Period which is the transition period is to floating exchange rate system. In consequence of study, except someperiods, cambium regime which is implemented in Turkey did not support the exchange rate policies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
