Abstract
- The article discusses the aesthetic and cultural relationship between the modernist movement and documentaries, particularly noting the treatment of the subject in the book "The Meaning of Contemporary Realism," by György Lukacs. It addresses the complementary nature of modernist literature's treatment of literary conventions and documentary's inspiration from the everyday. Other topics explored include the social and aesthetic function of Soviet films, the Mass Observation movement, and the work of poet Humphrey Jennings.
