Abstract

The article presents a study which examined the consequences for acute lung injury and hypothesized that priming before injurious mechanical ventilation with a clinically relevant model of sepsis would be linked with greater expression of inflammatory mediators and a functional worsening of lung physiology. It measured the mediators associated with sepsis and lung injury in the plasma. It concluded that there is significant discordance among systemic and pulmonary mediators.
