We could write many more than papers about maintenance and road safety, probably large handbooks, because they have many aspects in common. Because of this, this paper argues for a close relationship between Maintenance an Road Safety Departments. We could improve the accident rate if we work on this target. The Spanish law RD 345/2011, written by the Public Works Ministry, shows the road safety should be used at the very beginning of the road project design. In this situation, the Maintenance Department would be the most interested because it could use their budget for theirs goals, specially the road safety. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
