Abstract

The article discusses a trend among corporate boards in the U.S. to limit the compensation of chief executive officers for years during which their firms' shareholders experienced negative returns. Drug company Pfizer Inc. and telecommunications firm AT&T Inc. are among companies that have adopted executive pay restrictions since 2006. Irving S. Becker of consulting firm Hay Group predicts 40% of U.S. public companies could have such limits in place by the year 2015.
