The South as "Other," the Southerner as "Stranger".

An essay is presented which discusses the status of the U.S. Southerner as the other, deriving from a history in which race relations between African Americans and whites putatively separated the U.S. Southern States from the rest of the country. An overview of the history of U.S. Southern States' culture from 1619 through 2012, including the region's alleged hospitality, gender relations and religion, is provided
