Modernidades e intimidad: aproximaciones conceptuales para el estudio de las transformaciones de las parejas heterosexuales en México.

This article aims to present an in-formed reflection on the theoretical approaches on modernity and its impact on heterosexual couples in developed countries, as published by European authors, and the empirical researches done in Mexico in the last decades on gender meanings and relationships, as well as couple conflicts and transformations in Mexican (and Latinoamerican) heterosexual families. The contrast between both academic opinions takes into account five analytical dimensions. Finally, from such analysis we reflect on the need to consider the distinctive "modernities" existing in the different regions of the world and the importance of a criticism to a univocal notion of modernity and development when doing studies in the realm of couples and family.
