Abstract

In addition to dealing with all the pollution problems familiar to the West, India is still struggling with problems that are now virtually unknown in the industrialized world. Since the disaster at Bhopal, new legislation and the growing interest of grassroots organizations in environmental issues are a promising antidote to bureaucratic apathy.
