Abstract

The article presents an examination into the plot and performance history of the opera "Giulio Cesare," composed by George Frideric Handel in 1724. Details are given highlighting the thematic importance of the severed head of Pompey the Great in the opera's story. Comments are also given noting the personalities who premiered the production, including the castrato Senesino and the soprano Francesca Cuzzoni.
