Abstract

The article discusses the human papillomavirus (HPV) epidemic in the U.S. The author notes that pre-teen and adolescent girls and boys are priority groups for HPV vaccines, adding that even though HPV is largely preventable, only about 53% of teenage girls between the ages 13-17 have received the vaccines. Topics include the reluctance of U.S. mothers to have preteen daughters vaccinated, its impact on the spread of HPV, and the role of HPV vaccines in preventing cervical cancers.
