Inclusion by a substituted binaphthyl host: structures and kinetics of desolvation.

The host compound 2,2′-bis(hydroxydiphenylmethyl)-1,1′-binaphthyl displays a remarkably constant conformation, which is governed chiefly by an intramolecular O–H…O hydrogen bond.
