Abstract

Infantile nystagmus syndrome is characterized by involuntary ocular oscillations, conjugate, horizontal and spasmodic, representing a failure of the oculomotor control system. The early onset damages the proper sensorimotor development of the child. The association with diseases of ocular and central nervous system requires a general diagnosis of injury. Treatment is aimed at improving the foveation time on the retina, reduce oscillations and promote the best eye position. The use ofbotulinum toxin is an alternative treatment that can be used from the first months of life. Surgery is generally indicated to correct the torticollis and the null point nystagmus. There are also drug treatments and refractive corrections to improve vision and nystagmus intensity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
