Potential of Artemisinin-Based Combination Therapies to Block Malaria Transmission.

The author reflects on change in medicine for malaria after the discovery of parasites in midguts of malaria-causing mosquitoes by Sir Ronald Ross. Ross had explained the dynamic relation between the Plasmodium parasite and Anopheles vector. However, the author speaks of recent times when Plasmodium falciparum has emerged as chief malaria causing parasite. The malaria caused by this organism is cured by using artimisinin derivates from Artemisia annua in artimisinin-based Combination therapy.
