Abstract

The article discusses the impact of a student's socioeconomic status on education, particularly focusing on low-income students' struggles with educational engagement. It addresses reasons for decreased levels of engagement in students from low-income families including the decreased likelihood of proper nutrition, the connection between limited vocabularies and academic failure, and increased chance for chaotic family relations. Other topics explored include the importance of the teacher in providing a positive, adult role model and the need for positivity and optimism.
