Abstract

We report terahertz (THz) radiation from a 250-μm-diameter metal wire irradiated by a 160-fs infrared laser pulse. The detected radiation field is comparable to that from a 1-mm thick <110> ZnTe THz emitter under the same incident laser intensity of 280 GW/cm2. Photoemission is considered as the dominant mechanism to generate the transient radiation current in the wire. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
