Abstract
- A history of Indian-government relations in the United States and Canada from the Colonial period to 2013, as depicted in maps, is presented. Topics considered include the history of cartography; the creation of Indian reservations; the acquisition of Indian lands through purchase, treaty, and eminent domain; and the Walking Purchase of 1737 in Pennsylvania. Cartographers considered include Nicolas Sanson, Herman Moll, Lewis Evans, John Mitchell, and David H. Burr. Indian tribes discussed include the Pequot, Nanticoke, and Bear River Indians.
