Abstract
- The article explores the risk factors associated with the development of phlebitis in patients with peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVC). A inflammation of a vein, with multiple cases, phlebitis is the main local complication of the insertion of PIVC. In the authors' study, they discovered that patients who were inserted PIVC in the upper extremities had less than 72 percent chance of developing phlebitis while those receiving KCl or antibiotics have the most significant risk factors.
