Abstract

Brain stroke is still one of the main causes of human death and physiological disability nowadays. One of the main causes of ischemic brain stroke is carotid artery constriction. At present, although modern prophylaxis of brain stroke consists of pharmacological treatment, the primary surgical techniques used are surgical endarterectomy of the internal carotid artery or tension balloon angioplasty with the mounting of a stent. Most modern medical research points to the fact that both of these surgical interventions are of the equal value according to their effectiveness and profile of any complications. This is why the most modern treatment standards presented by the medical scientific organizations more and more frequently promote both of these methods with the same strength, according to anatomical differences, the patient's age and the experience of the surgical team.
