Abstract

The article discusses the results of a study that examined the outbreak of chikungunya virus (CHIKV) infection, which replicates in the skin and then disseminates to the liver and joints, in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo. The CHIKV is associated with the mosquito vectors Ae, albopictus and Ae. aegypti. The study identified CHIKV as the causative agent for the 2011 outbreak of febrile disease characterized by severe joint pain.
