Abstract

Highlights: [•] A new potassium lead pentaborate, KPbB5O9, has been synthesized. [•] Infrared spectrum has been used to verify the validity of the structures. [•] KPbB5O9 has an UV cut off edge at about 230nm. [•] The calculated band structures suggest that the direct gap of KPbB5O9 is 3.781eV. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
