Abstract
- The article reports on the factory inspection system for foreign factories that manufacture retail goods for U.S. companies such as WalMart, arguing that inspections miss safety and labor issues such as adequate fire escapes and child labor. Supply chain management, subcontracting, and accidents such as the 2013 Rana Plaza building collapse in Bangladesh are discussed, as well as corrupt practices at a pet goods manufacturer in China for products for the Quaker Pet Group.
