Abstract

The article discusses opposition among Democrats in Congress to the potential nomination of economist Larry Summers to become chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed). Senators Elizabeth Warren, Sherrod Brown, and Jeff Merkley are among those who would be expected to vote against Summers, whose ties to the securities industry and past record as Treasury Secretary have not endeared him to some Democrats.
