Spectrum occupancy investigation: Measurements in South Africa.

Highlights: [•] Spectrum measurements were taken for the UHF and GSM bands over a six week period. [•] An improved method for statistically determining spectrum occupancy was presented. [•] Occupancy in the UHF band was found to be fairly constant at approximately only 20%. [•] The GSM 900 and 1800MHz bands were found to be 92% and 40% occupied respectively.
