The article presents a study which aims to create a synthetic riboswitch through the use of the chemistry-based design of a ligand molecule and its target RNA sequence. It states that a ligand-aptamer pair is a vital element in the creation of riboswitch. Moreover, the study shows that the a ligand-aptamer pair could be attained by the rational design of a synthetic RNA-binding ligand without the use of selection methods.
