Abstract

The aim of this article is to study the concept of metadiscourse, which may be understood as a set of rhetorical devices used in accordance with the objectives of the communication. Our goal is to explore, on the one hand, how metadiscourse is used by company CEOs, and on the other hand, how it is translated from French into Spanish. The results show that these texts have their own metadiscursive patterns and that translators usually respect their structure, while introducing new types. Furthermore, the results may be used in translation training and business language teaching. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
