Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to study the perception of young adult users towards public library services, to know the purpose for which young adults visit the library, their impression about services, facilities, library staff and factors motivate them to make optimum use of the library. A Survey method was conducted by structured questionnaire which were administered among young adult users between 15 to 35 year of age. The results of these surveys were analyzed in depth applying statistical techniques. The perception of young adult users are positive and satisfied with the services they received from the library. It was found that most of the respondents belong to 21-25 years of age, majority of young adults visit library to use newspapers/magazine and journals for competitive exams and quizzes, and young adult users are satisfied with the public library services. The study focused on young adult users between 15 to 35 years of age in City Central Library of Mysore. This study highlighted the perception of young adults users towards public library services. The study reveals that there is need to improve the basic infrastructure amenities in the public library like separate room for young adults, drinking water, clean toilet facility etc. The paper is of practical value to public library because understanding of young adult users' perceptions is important for the development as well as improvement of public library services and facilities.
